Hosted and creatively produced this short film for VICE social about the disproportionate impact xenophobia and discrimination had on small businesses in Chinatown at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

Even though all small businesses were impacted by COVID-19, we wanted to shed light on how businesses in NY’s Chinatown specifically were disproportionately affected by xenophobic and sinophobic beliefs exacerbated by the existing political climate at that time. We spoke with Chinatown Optical, Eggloo, and 12 Pell St barbershop to learn more about their experiences at that tense and difficult itme.
