ABOUT
how wood ash refertilizes the earth is a work is a commissioned art piece that interrogates the historical existence of safe space for Asians in America. This piece was featured on @culturestrike’s social and editorial platforms.
Featuring photography by Ash Alexander, the work uses negative space and movement to illustrate the fickle ebb and flow by which the U.S. has given—and taken away land from—Asian communities throughout our history in this country.
Created in 2021, in a year of staggering anti-Asian violence, this piece aims to remind folks that safety is something Asian Americans have always been and must keep fighting for—everywhere we are.
